St. Tropez City Info

St. Tropez Hotels
St. tropez map is on the coast across the bay from Ste Maxime. It’s 50 km southwest of Cannes and 60 km northeast of Toulon. The name 'st. tropez' comes from St. Tropes, a martyr who refused to give up his faith. He was beheaded and his body was thrown into a boat, which drifted into what is now called the Golfe de Saint-Tropez, where he finally came ashore.
In the 1920s st. tropez attracted international stars from the world of fashion. During World War II, on August 15, 1944, it was the central site of a beach landing in Operation Dragoon, the Allied invasion of southern France. After the war it became the French existentialists' summer quarter. But it was in the 1950s partly thanks to Brigitte Bardot that Saint-Tropez received international recognition.
The seaside resort town St. Tropez is very popular with the tourists. It is set on the lovely blue water of the Bay of St. Tropez, this modern version of a medieval town is most popular for the line of yachts along the quai, and the facing line of terrace cafés, divided by a parade of strolling tourists and slow cruising expensive cars. The st. tropez beaches are mostly away from the center, and require transportation.
The best st. tropez beaches are located along the coast in the Baie de Pampelonne, which lies south of Saint-Tropez and east of Ramatuelle. Pampelonne offers a collection of st. tropez beaches along its five kilometre shore. Each beach is around thirty metres wide with its own beach hut and private or public tanning area. Some st. tropez beaches are very chic and offer fashion shows on the beach; others are quiet and relaxing and some even have restaurants and cafés directly on the water's edge. Many of the st. tropez beach offer windsurfing, sailing and canoeing equipment for rent. While some beaches offer an abundance of motorized water sports like power boats, jet bikes and water skiing. The st. tropez beaches are open during the day and night, and the Pampelonne beaches are able to offer exactly the kind of beach life what a tourist is looking for.
St. tropez night life is very lively and often one can see helicopters bringing elegant guests to private parties in one of the many luxurious villas on the bay. While visiting the city one can enjoy activities such as water sports, Tennis, Squash, Golf, Horseback riding, Hiking along the coast.

St. tropez has many places of interests for tourists which is a must see when in the city. Some of the attractions are: the old port, Place des Lices, Rue Gambetta, Place des Ormeau, the 18th c. church and bell tower.
